I’m A Big Kid Now!

Yesterday, my son grew up.
We started potty training and I am unbelievably proud of how well he is doing.
He is so proud of himself, too. His favorite part is flushing it down the toilet.
”bye bye peepees!

photo (17)

He also drank out of a cup, unassisted, for the first time yesterday.
We’ve been playing it safe with sippy cups up until now.
But when I handed him his own Riker-size cup, he knew just what to do.

And then, the kicker, he said his prayers last night all by himself.
he usually will parrot us when we say prayers at bedtime, but last night he just said it all by himself.
I was shocked and oh so proud
(tears may or may not have filled my eyes).

it just amazes me to see how much he has grown.
I look at Olivia and can clearly remember when riker was so teeny tiny…
now he’s a big boy who pees on the potty and drinks out of cups and says his own prayers.
livvy bug better stay bitty for a while longer, I don’t know how much more growing up I can handle.

Cabin Fever

So far, the month of February is proving to be a pretty crappy month in the Grier house.
For a family that rarely, if ever, gets sick we sure have been hit hard this month.
And as a result, we are all feeling the cabin fever set in.

photo (9)

Our countertop has been littered with all sorts of drugs all month long.
This picture doesn’t even include the meds that Riker was recently prescribed.

photo (6)

TJ has been battling the longest lasting cold for weeks now.
Lisa started out by dealing with a wisdom tooth extraction, a root canal, and now has TJ’s cold.

photo (7)

Poor Riker started showing cold-like symptoms last Sunday.
After three days of a fever and raspy coughing, he started complaining about his ears hurting.
we headed to the doctor and discovered Riker had double ear infections as well as RSV.
His first ear infections ever, and his first time being really sick.

photo (8)

Aside from some coughing fits late at night and a runny nose all day long, Riker has been handling his sickness like a champ.
He would stand at the window most of the day, asking if we could go outside and play with the other kids he saw.
Poor little guy couldn’t understand why he couldn’t play with his friends.

photo (10)

We’d hoped that little miss Livvy Bug would stay healthy,
but she started coughing yesterday and sounds even worse today.

photo (11)

Of course, Olivia is handling her sickness much different than her brother.
While he is still up and running around, jumping on the couch cushions, Livvy chooses to spend the day sleeping.

photo (12)

Luckily, her nose isn’t too congested
and her breathing isn’t too labored.
But we plan to visit the doctor soon anyway, just to make sure she doesn’t get any worse.

photo (13)

I am so ready for all of us to be healthy again.
We miss playing with our friends, going to our music and tumbling classes, and playing at the play places.
Also…I miss chocolate.
I’ve been abstaining from sweets all month as a personal challenge for myself,
but I’m pretty sure that if I could eat chocolate right now I would instantly be healed.
chocolate has magical powers.

A Rite of Manhood

TJ decided it was time to teach Riker how to be a man.
And the manliest of men need to shave.

He looks older, don’t you think?

Risky Business

If you stop by our house after 6pm on any given day, Riker is usually not wearing pants.
Mainly because his parents are just too lazy to put his pants back on after changing his diaper…
I mean, he’s going to be putting pajamas on in a few hours so why bother putting the pants back on.

Today was no different.
Riker had a diaper change around 6:30…pants were left off.
And since he was still wearing his church shirt, I just had to give him some sunglasses.

Pretty sure this picture will be shown at his wedding some day.
And I’m also pretty sure that Riker looks so much better sporting this look than Tom Cruise did.

*still the prettiest little baby ever!

35 Things: Update

remember my list of 35 things to do this year? I’m slowly whittling away at it. In case you care, here’s an update:

#5: Try one new recipe a week
*
honey bbq meatloaf: gross…basically meat mush on a plate
*
alfredo lasagna roll ups: yummy and easy!
*
black bean & guac burritos: tasty tasty…we left out the lettuce, only because we didn’t have any
*
homemade pizzas: simple and better than the rhodes rolls I usually use!
*green monster smoothies: my new obsession, we drink one every day now!

#8: read 30 books
I read three books this month…
*Crossed by ally condie
*A child called “it” by dave pelzer
*heaven is for real by todd burpo
I actually read a fourth book (The guernsey literary and potato peel pie society), but it was a reread for book club so I can’t count it

#9: complete an act of service each month
did it…felt the warm fuzzies.

#24: get a hair cut
mom trimmed my hair while she was visiting…totally counting it! However, at some point this year I’d actually like to cut my hair…I just have to convince TJ to let me!

#28: floss daily for 21 days
it’s been 25 days so far and I’m still going strong…my dentist will think I’m awesome.

I started feeling a little antsy, thinking I hadn’t done enough this month…but then I remembered that there are still 11 more months to go. so in that case, I think I’m off to a pretty good start this year!

did you write a list? how you doin’?
